This week's Find

Grammar stage memorisation complied by Hannah Wilson. Look it up and if you like it you can download a free copy. I definitely don't think we'll memorise it all but it sure helps to have it in one place and we could add as we go along. Thank you Hannah Wilson.

This week's Recipe

Busy-Day Chocolate Cake

This chocolate cake recipe from Lucinda Scala Quinn's "Mad Hungry" cookbook involves minimal cleanup -- the ingredients are blended in the very pan that goes into the oven.

  • servings: 8
Busy-Day Chocolate Cake

  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour, (spooned and leveled)
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 3 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon coarse salt
  • 6 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon white vinegar
  • 1 cup cold water
  1. Step 1

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. In an 8-inch square baking pan, whisk together all-purpose flour, sugar, unsweetened cocoa powder, baking soda, and coarse salt.
  2. Step 2

Make a well in center of flour mixture and add vegetable oil, pure vanilla extract, white vinegar, and cold water. Whisk until well combined. Bake until a toothpick inserted in center comes out clean, 35 to 40 minutes. Let cool completely in pan on a wire rack.

Simple Buttercream

  • yield: Makes 2 3/4 cups
  • 2 cups (4 sticks) unsalted butter, room temperature
  • 1 pound confectioners' sugar, sifted
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt

Step 1

In a mixer bowl fitted with a paddle attachment, combine butter, sugar, vanilla, and salt. Beat on high speed 2 to 3 minutes, scraping down the sides of the bowl occasionally.

This week's Song

Open up the bible, Veggie Tales

David was a shepherd boy
Who cared for simple things.
But God made him brave
Then little Dav
Grew up to be a king.

When you open up the bible you will see
Lots of ordinary people like you and me
Who trust in God to do fantastic things.

When you open up the bible you will read
That God has promised all you need.
To make you into who you're meant to be.

Sara was a faithful wife
Who waited on the Lord.
She wanted a son
So she prayed for one
And which was her reward.

Noah was a righteous man
Who listened to God's plans.
And when the rains came down
He did'nt drown
But floated to dry land.

This week's Verse

James1:5
If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.

One fine day....

There's never the perfect time to begin something...you just have to, and take it from there.
Home schooling comes under this category for me.
I'm blogging for a couple of reasons, for accountability (more for myself)
and  to keep an online album running. This past week was one in which we were trying to give some structure to our flexibility. We moved back from Las Vegas on September 18th,2013 and we're starting a life here. God's grace and provision is obvious in our lives and we're thankful for it.
