Missionary Mondays - Samuel Morris

Samuel Morris -  (1872-1893)

You have heard of missionaries who went to Africa to tell the people about Jesus. But did you know that in the late 1800s an African man came to our country and showed Americans the love of Jesus?
His name was Samuel Morris, or Kaboo, as he was known to his tribe. His story is as amazing today as it was to those who met the young Samuel Morris more than 100 years ago. Here is his story based on his own account.

Pay or Sammy Suffers!
The year: 1872
The place: My native country of Liberia, in Africa
"You must pay if you want peace," threatened the enemy chief. "We will pay," thundered my father, "We will pay." As the oldest son, I was taken as a hostage until my father, also a tribal chief, could pay off the war debts. Each month, my father brought gifts to the enemy chief, but they were never enough. The chief beat me daily with a poisonous, thorny vine he used as a whip. The poisonous thorns infected the wounds on my back, making me sick with chills and a fever.

A Bright Light and Broken Knots
After many whippings, I was so weak, I could no longer stand. I was tied to a wooden cross to be beaten. My captors planned to bury me alive if my father didn't bring enough goods next time. I actually began to look forward to death. At least I would be released me from this unbearable pain. As I hung over the grave they had dug, I could feel myself slowly dying. Then suddenly a bright light appeared over me! The ropes miraculously fell off my hands and feet! I heard a voice call my name, and it told me to run! All of a sudden, I felt strong. I ran as fast as I could into the jungle and hid in a hollow tree until night came. I now had time to think about what had happened. What caused the bright light? Who had spoken to me? How did I become strong so quickly? I didn't have any answers, but I knew I must run far away. If I returned to my father, the enemy chief would kill my entire tribe.
As I stepped out of the hollow tree into the darkness, I was amazed--the bright light that shone on me earlier was still there. It guided me through the night.

After walking for many days, I came to a farm. A young worker greeted me and took me to his boss. The boss gave me clothes to wear and a job. I noticed there was something different about the young farm worker. I often saw him kneeling on the floor. He told me he was praying to God, his Father in heaven. He invited me to go to church with him. I went and found the presence of God there. It all began to make sense to me. I now know it was Jesus who saved me from my captors. Jesus was the light who guided me through the jungle and to my new home!
As I began to learn more about Jesus, I asked him to be my Savior. After I was baptized, an American missionary who was teaching me gave me a new Christian name: Samuel Morris.

It Really Did Happen
I know my story about the bright light seems impossible, but many months later I met a young boy who had been a slave of the enemy chief at the time I was a hostage. He said, "We did not know what had happened to you. We saw the bright light flash over you. We heard someone call your name, and then you were gone." After I told him about the miracle, he became a Christian, too.

Nothing Stops God Taking Me to America
I had so many questions. I was hungry to know more about God. I decided to go to America to study and learn. I went to the African coast and found a ship headed to America. The ship's captain refused to let me on board. I asked God to change his heart, and he did! One of his sailors became very sick. The captain let me take his job, assuming that I knew how to sail, but I didn't. When he and the sailors drank too much, they treated me very badly. One man even tried to kill me. But I showed them God's love. Over the months at sea, many of them, including the captain, became Christians. A ship, once so full of hatred and drunkenness, became a vessel of love and unity in Christ.

America Warms to Sammy Morris
We arrived in New York City, and I spent many months with Stephen Merritt, a man the missionaries said could teach me more. My desire to know God better helped stir the hearts of the men at the homeless mission that Stephen operated. Many of them became Christians. Stephen later urged me to go to Taylor University, in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Even though the University was having hard times, the dean felt that God wanted me to come. God used my desire to know him better to start a spiritual revival in the town, after a local newspaper printed a story about an all-night prayer service we had. It also included the story of my capture and conversion to Christianity. The name Samuel Morris became known in almost every home in Fort Wayne. So many donations came in to the "Samuel Faith Fund" that the university began to grow. (The fund helped other needy students, too.)

Samuel often became sick because of the cold Indiana climate that he was not used to. He asked God to heal him, but Samuel's work on earth was done. He died just five years after coming to America. But the story doesn't end there. God used Samuel's simple faith and strong prayer life in a mighty way. Many students took the Gospel that Samuel understood so well back to Africa and even around the world. Taylor University is still sending out missionaries today, thanks in part to the faith of a young African man named Samuel Morris.

William Borden

There are many, many wonderful things about being part of the family of God.  Can you think of any?
A very special blessing that comes with being part of God’s family is that everyone’s story has a happy ending…there are no sad ones!  No one who loves and obeys God will ever be separated from His forever love…and because of that – no matter what happens to you – your life will have a happy ending.  You will end up in Heaven with your King and all of His people!
For those who belong to God, a happy ending is not decided by how many years you live, how much money you make, or if you become the best at something.  Even if none of those things ever go well for you, your life is is wonderful and important because God is the King of it.  Because you belong to Jesus and trust Him.
Happy endings come to God’s people no matter how long they live or how successful they are!
There is a man who lived a long time ago who loved God very, very much, and his story has a very happy ending.  But for people who didn’t understand God and His love, they thought that his life had a terrible ending.  They thought that God cheated him of a happy ending.
This story is about a man named William Borden.
William Borden had a wonderful childhood filled with love and adventure.  He grew up in a home with a mother who loved Jesus very much and who poured her life into teaching her children about Jesus as well.  Because of his mother’s teaching about the love and truth of Jesus, William accepted Christ into his heart as a very young boy.
William’s father was a hard-working businessman who became very successful.  In fact, his father made so much money that William’s family was one of the wealthiest families in the whole country!  There was nothing that William and his brothers and sisters wanted that they couldn’t have.
When William turned 16, his father surprised him by sending him on a trip around the world!  Can you imagine…being just a young boy and going all the way around the world by yourself?  Imagine the beautiful places that William saw, the strange animals, the new foods that he tried and the new languages that he heard.  It must have been quite an adventure!
One of the unique and spectacular things about William Borden is that all of the comforts of his life that were due to his family’s wealth were not important to him.  He didn’t want to keep all of that money for himself.  He knew that God made him wealthy because he was meant to help others.  Even the wonderful trip around the world that he was blessed to go on was much more than just a relaxing vacation for William.  He saw it as a time to understand the need that the entire world had for the gospel of Jesus.  When he returned home from the trip, he was completely convinced that the Lord wanted him to be a missionary on the other side of the world…all the way in China.
Before William headed to China, though, he decided to honor his father’s wishes first and get a college degree.  He entered Yale University in 1905 with the desire to keep his wealth a secret and blend in with all of the other students.  It wasn’t long before he became very popular among all of his classmates, and it had nothing to do with his money.
William was instantly recognized as a Christian leader on campus.  His love for God and his passion for telling others about Him was what everyone first noticed about William.  And everyone loved and respected him for it.
When William decided to start an early-morning Bible study and prayer time with one of his friends, it wasn’t long before another student joined, and then another, and then another.  Eventually, close to every student that attended Yale University was attending William’s early-morning Bible study!
God had fired up William’s heart for sharing the truth of Jesus, and because of William’s obedience to do so, he was making a difference on an entire college campus!
William was also very involved in serving and taking care of the poor and homeless people in the city.  He could often be found in dark alleyways on the weekends, where it was dangerous and where most people would never dare go.  He would buy food and clothing for people who had none.  And of course, he was always speaking of the kind and compassionate God whom He served.
William’s life amazed his friends, because it was so unlike what the typical college student was interested in.  William was interested in everyone except himself.  Rather than spending his time to enjoy his money and indulge in comforts, William’s purpose for living was to spread the good news of Jesus.
Once William graduated from college, he was more excited than ever to obey God’s call to join the mission field in China.  His heart was ready, he had obeyed his father’s instructions to graduate from college…it was time to go!
He boarded a ship that was to take him first to Egypt, for he wanted to spend some time there learning the language of the Muslims before arriving in China.
It is here that William’s story takes a surprising turn.  Rather than have William continue on to China and spend the rest of his life serving the Chinese Muslims, God decided that William’s work was already done.  He allowed William to get sick, and soon after, die in his bed and go home to Heaven.
William never made it to China, and this really confused many, many people.  Why would God give such a wonderful person such a sad ending?
The truth is, and what William knew, is that God’s plan was perfect for William.  And William’s story did, in fact, have a wonderful ending.  William lived his life in obedience to and with a big love for his Savior, and that is all that matters.  A certain number of years were not promised to William, but Heaven was.  And Heaven came to William right when God wanted it to.  William lived a very impactful life and he enjoyed a very happy ending.
After William died, his family found his Bible next to his bed.  Inside the cover of the Bible were written 3 sentences…3 sentences that sum up his life and his death:
No Reserves.
No Retreats.
No Regrets.
William wrote the last line – “No Regrets” – when he knew he was dying.  He was not afraid or confused or angry…he was content in God’s plan.  He had no regrets.
This story is a comfort to all of us because we are reminded that – no matter what trials come our way – our future is secured in Heaven with Jesus.  And it is when we know and love that truth that we can live our life without any regrets, the way William Borden did.
Prayer:  Holy Father, thank you for the life that you planned for William Borden.  Thank you for saving him and using him so that we can learn from his faith and obedience.  We ask that you would make us more in love with You than we are with money or comfort or even the desire for a long life.  Help us to trust Your perfect plan for us and to live a life with no regrets.  We love You so much, Jesus.  Amen.

This week's Song

Forgiveness Song

You know that in love we can forgive
It is the only way to live
Obey God and see that we can live in harmony!
Since God has forgiven us, it's true
You forgive me, I'll forgive you
I'm gonna start to show forgiveness from my heart!
You know that in love we can forgive
Hey man! It is the only way to live
Obey God and see that we can live in harmony!
Since God has forgiven us, it's true
You forgive me, I'll forgive you
I'm gonna start to show forgiveness from my heart!
So do your part, and show forgiveness from your heart!

Missionary Mondays - Mary Slessor

Mary Slessor

Whenever we imagine a hero, or a very brave person, we often picture a man with big muscles who isn’t scared of anyone or anything.  We often think of a hero as someone famous, someone whom everyone knows and is excited about.
This story is about a very, very brave person.  A person so brave that no one else in the entire world was brave enough to do what she did!
Did you hear me say “she?”  The brave person in this story isn’t a big man with muscles.  Would you believe that this very brave person is sweet, small lady?

What makes a person brave isn’t about what size their muscles are or how strong they are.  It’s about how much they love and trust God.  Because when you love God a lot, you start to love people a lot.  And when you start to love people a lot, there’s no limit to what you will do for them.
Mary Slessor was a young lady who lived a long time ago in a place called Scotland.  She grew up very poor.  Her family was so poor that when she was a very small girl she had to work long hours at a factory.  She worked so that her family would have enough money for food.

Even though she grew up without all of the nice things that a lot of other kids had, and even though she had to work hard at a factory instead of playing outside, Mary Slessor loved Jesus very, very, much.
Mary found great joy and comfort in the Bible verses that her mother would read every night.  And when her mother began to read stories of missionaries in Africa, she began to dream of doing big things for God.  At a very young age, God was already starting to fill Mary’s heart with bravery and love for a people who lived far, far away.
When she turned 29, she had everything prepared to go live as a missionary in Africa.  To Mary, it was her dream and and she knew it was exactly what God wanted her to do.  But to everyone else, it was a horrible idea.  See, she wasn’t going to a place where the people liked missionaries, or even listened to them.  Mary was going to a place where the people killed missionaries.  Everyone kept telling her that she was going to die if she went to Africa.
But Mary saw things differently than everyone else did.  When she thought of those people so far away in Africa, her heart was deeply saddened because they had no idea who Jesus was.  They lived in violence and in darkness, and Mary knew that if the truth of Jesus was brought to them it would bring light and peace.
So she packed up her things, got on a boat, and against everyone else’s idea of wisdom, she headed to Africa.

When Mary arrived deep in the jungles of Africa, the situation among the village people was very frightening.  People would steal, cheat, and kill each other whenever they felt like it.  And they lived in fear of everything.  The village people thought that anything unusual, like twins being born or someone who looked different, was a  bad thing.  So they would send away or kill anyone who was a little different.  They couldn’t read, they didn’t know how to take care of sickness or injuries, they didn’t understand how to have a fair and honest village, and they had no idea who Jesus was.
But Mary was not scared at all.  In fact, from the moment she arrived she loved those people, especially the different ones who needed to be protected and defended.

One day, twins were born in the village.  The older men heard about it and were going to go snatch the babies away from their mother because they thought that the birth of twins was a sign of something bad about to happen to the village.  But sweet, small Mary stood between the twin babies and those angry village men.  She said that twins are not a sign of anything evil; rather, they are a gift from God!  She offered to remove the babies from the village if they would allow them to live.
She carried the twin babies in her arms for miles through the jungle by herself to get them to safety.  She cared for them in her own home until she could convince the village men to allow the children to return.
The village people thought Mary was very strange, but they allowed her to live with them.  After a while, they even began to trust her!  They began to realize that all of the things she was trying to teach them – cleanliness, fairness and honesty, and the law of her God – made good things happen.  Everything about her God began to make sense to them!
Mary couldn’t believe it.  She was so filled with joy that this group of people that everyone else thought was too evil to ever change now loved and followed Jesus.  So many things about their way of life began to change – they no longer lived in fear, they were kind and honest, and they began to take better care of themselves.  And on any given Sunday, you would find several hundred of the villagers in church.

One night, Mary was lying on the dirt floor of her hut.  “Lord,” she prayed, “I am so thankful and happy that you have saved this village from death and darkness.  You are their Lord now!  But my heart is still heavy.  There are so many other villages even deeper in the jungle who live in an even darker evil than this one.  Will you please send me there?   I want them to know You the way this village now knows You.”
So sweet, small Mary began to pack her bags and planned to head deeper into the jungle in search of more villages.  Everyone told her that no person has ever ventured deeper into the jungle.  If she was discovered by those people, they would kill her for sure.
But Mary’s heart was fired by the love her Savior, and the hope of those lost villagers knowing Jesus would make her do impossibly brave things.  As she was leaving, King Eyo – an honest Christian king from her old village – said, “Friend Mary, if, God is sending you to the dangerous villages deep in the jungle, then I want to send you in my ‘Big Man’ canoe.  They will respect you and treat you with honor when they see you arrive in this special canoe that only kings ride in.”
Mary was so thankful.  She climbed into the canoe and paddled upriver as all of her friends on shore wept.

She soon arrived at the new village.  Her heart began to pound, because the wickedness that she saw in this village was far worse than anything she had ever seen.  The only things that the villagers cared about were guns for killing, chains for tying up slaves, and liquor for dulling their minds.
But God had prepared the way for Mary!   Against all reason, they welcomed this strange, small woman into their village.
She lived in a mud hut in the middle of the village, and it seemed like everyday she was involved in solving a violent crisis.  She prevented murders, riots, and wars from breaking out.  Eventually the villagers even began to seek her out for wisdom and advice.
One day, she received news that a group of men were planning to attack and steal from a neighboring village.  She knew that she would never get to the men in time to talk them out of it.
“Lord!  I need an idea quickly!  How can I get to the men in time and prevent them from attacking innocent people?”
And right away, God filled her mind with a solution.  Mary found a piece of blank paper and then began to scribble all over it.  She didn’t write any actual words, she just scribbled.  Then she rolled it up, tied it with a piece of string, and handed it to the fastest runner in the village. “Run as fast as you can!”, Mary told the runner.  “Deliver this message to the men who are going to attack and tell them that they need to do exactly what this paper says.”

The runner took off through the jungle to find the group of angry men.  When the runner found them, he told them what Mary said, that they needed to do exactly what was instructed on the paper.
Mary knew that those men couldn’t read.  And she also knew that they would be very curious about a mysterious message that had specifically arrived for them.  The men puzzled and puzzled over the paper, which provided just enough time for Mary to find and catch up with the group of angry men.
God’s idea had worked!  She had stalled the men long enough to find them so that she could persuade them not to kill innocent people.
“My God sent me here to tell you not to kill those villagers.  You were all created by Him, and His law is made for all of you.  Please, allow my God to take the anger out of your hearts and fill your hearts with love.”
Thankfully, the men chose peace over war and returned home.

Mary lived in the jungles of Africa for the rest of her life.  It was never easy, but she loved the people very deeply.  Through prayer and perseverance and love, Mary saw hundreds of village people come to know Jesus.  Entire villages were transformed.
Mary did something that changed the world.  Because of her great faith and obedience, today Africa is filled with men, women, and children who know Jesus.  And you can be brave, too!  God can do great things through anyone!  Just ask Him what He would have you do.

Prayer
Great Father, would You show us how to love others the way You love us?  You are so kind and merciful to Your people, forgiving and discarding our sin.  Change our hearts to be more like Yours.  Thank You for the life of Mary Slessor and the way You gave her such an obedient and brave heart.  Thank You for the people in Africa who know You because of her.  Would you continue to bring the truth to people who have never heart it?  Send me, Lord, if that is Your plan.  Amen.”

Experiment this Week - Sound Wave

Sound Wave Experiment

You'll need a few items that I'm sure you can easily find around the house -- the affiliate links in our list will give you a quick description of each item:
  • A ruler (we found a wooden or heavy plastic ruler worked best)
  • Two different size spoons (try using a teaspoon and a serving spoon)
  • About 4 feet of string or yarn (this will depend on how tall you are as you can see below)
First, create a loop in the middle of the yarn/string and insert the handle of the spoon.
Pull tightly so that the spoon hangs in the center of the yarn/string and you have two long pieces of approximately equal length.

Take each string and wrap them around your pointer finger on each hand.
Then push the string against each ear (not into the ear but just outside like you are going to plug your ears because you don't want to hear  something)
You'll want the spoon to hang just below the waist once both ends of the yarn are placed near the ears.

Once the string in pushed against the ears, have someone GENTLY hit the ruler against the round part of the spoon -- and watch the look on your child's face.

Warning: Kids often think that the HARDER they hit the spoon, the louder the sound -- be sure to test out this theory too!
If you are using a small spoon, you should hear a distinct bell sound -- with a larger spoon, it will sound more like a gong.
Pretty cool!

The Science Behind the Sound Wave Experiment

Here's what's really happening during the activity -- When the ruler hits the spoon, it creates vibrations which make sound waves.  These sound waves travel up the yarn/string and to the ear instead of just spreading out into the air around you. The yarn acts as a conductor -- an object that allows sound waves to travel.
Depending on the size of the spoon and the length of yarn, the sound will appear higher (like a church bell) or deeper (like a gong).
And because the yarn allows the sound waves to continue to travel, the sound of the spoon will resonate or reverberate -- meaning they will continue for a while after you have hit the spoon.
Another thing we found was that the only one who can hear the bell or gong sound will be the person with the string near their ears -- which we thought was also pretty cool.  Everyone else in the room will just hear a faint 'tink' when the ruler hits the spoon.

This Week's Song

You Were Meant to Be
Written by: STEVEN CURTIS CHAPMAN

Long before you drew your first breath
A dream was coming true
God wanted to give a gift to the world
So he wrapped it up in you
Every step that you've taken
Every move that you make
Is part of his plan

You were meant to be touching
The lives that you touch
And meant to be here
Making this world so much more
Than it would be without you in it
You were meant to be bringing
The gifts that you bring
And singing the songs
You've been given to sing
You are perfectly, wonderfully,
Beautifully meant to be, yeah
You were meant to be

Long before you took your first fall
You stumbled to the ground
God started telling the story of you,
to the angels gathered around
Every failure and victory
Everything in between
Its all in his hand

You were meant to be touching
The lives that you touch
And meant to be here
Making this world so much more
Than it would be without you in it
You were meant to be bringing
The gifts that you bring
And singing the songs
You've been given to sing
You are perfectly, wonderfully,
Beautifully meant to be, yeah
You were meant to be
You are
You are
You are meant to be
You are
You are
You are meant to be

For every breath that you're taking
And every move that you make
It's a meaningful life you've been given
So live it well

You were meant to be touching
The lives that you touch
And meant to be here
Making this world so much more
Than it would be without you in it

You were meant to be bringing
The gifts that you bring
And singing the songs
You've been given to sing

You are perfectly, wonderfully,
Beautifully meant to be, yeah
You were meant to be, yeah
You were meant to be, yeah
You were meant to be
To be
You were meant to be

Missionary Mondays

David Brainerd

David Brainerd
God’s plan for rescuing His people from sin has always been a plan full of surprises.  No one would have ever dreamed that the mighty King of the universe would have become a poor, homeless man who sacrificed Himself for the very people who rejected Him.  No one would would have ever dreamed that getting to Heaven was gained by trading in your sin for Jesus’ righteousness and not gained by doing anything good.  No one would have ever dreamed that He would have used a group of sinful, clumsy men to be the first ones to spread the good news of the gospel.

And no one would have ever dreamed that God would have chosen a man like David Brainerd to bring the love and truth of Jesus to a scary and unknown group of people – the American Indians.
David Brainerd was born a long time ago – in 1718 –  before the United States was even it’s own country.  His mother and father were both Puritans – people who had sailed to America from England so that they could worship God without fear of being punished.

Even though David grew up going to church and knowing all the stories of the Bible, it wasn’t until he was 21 years old that he fell in love with Jesus and became one of His followers.  For so long, David had thought that he could be a good person and earn his way to Heaven.  Because of that wrong way of thinking, he developed a very haughty attitude.  He would consider himself to be more holy than anyone else around him, and he was very judgmental about the way other people lived.  He probably had a difficult time keeping close friends!
But despite the high wall of good deeds that David had built around himself, God still snuck into David’s life and brought those walls crashing down to the ground.  God, in a very mighty way, revealed to David that all of his good works were good for nothing, and that the only thing that mattered about a person was whether they loved God or not.

So right then and there, David started over.  He began hearing and reading God’s Word like it was the first time!  He was so excited and in love with the truth that Jesus had set him free from the law and sin and death!  David knew that he must devote his life to spreading the same good news to others.
And he didn’t want to do it from the comforts of his hometown.
David Brainerd wanted to take the good news of the gospel way out into the wilderness.  Where the American Indians lived.
This decision shocked many people.
“Go live out in the wilderness?  With the Indians??” the people exclaimed.  “Think of the dangers!  There are no doctors; there are wild animals; and worst of all, the Indians – the same people you are trying to save – will probably kill you!  You are a fool if you go, David Brainerd!”
Do you think that stopped David, or even scared him?  Absolutely not.  For you see, ever since David had become a follower of Jesus, he had been practicing his secret weapon.  This secret weapon was so powerful that David had no fear about going to live in the dangerous forests.  This secret weapon gave him so much courage that he knew he would be well-taken-care-of.

Do you want to know what David Brainerd’s secret weapon was?
It wasn’t a sword, or a gun, or any kind of weapon like that.
David Brainerd was armed with the power of constantly and fervently praying.
His life was one that was filled with prayer.  David knew that prayer was one of the ways that God changed the world, so he prayed as often and as intensely as possible.  There were many days throughout the week that David would pray from morning until evening.  He truly loved being in God’s presence, begging Him to save the souls of the Indians and to protect him in the process.
And did God ever honor David’s faithful praying!
Awesome and miraculous things would happen because of the the prayers of David Brainerd.
One night, soon after arriving deep in the forests, David was on his knees praying.
“Oh Father!  If you would just give me a way into the village of these Indian people.  Change the chief’s heart, that he may welcome me in and hear the message of Your Truth.  Whatever it takes, Father, to spread the good news of Your Gospel, I am willing to do it!”

David didn’t know it, but as he was kneeling on the ground praying those words, the very group of Indians that he wanted to meet were hiding in the bushes, watching him.  They had planned to attack and kill him, for he was a stranger, but before they attacked, something incredible happened that changed their mind.
David was on his knees with his eyes closed, so he didn’t see the rattlesnake that was slithering up to him, but the Indians saw it.  They also saw the rattlesnake lift up its head close to David’s head, ready to bite and surely kill him.  The Indians continued to watch, assuming that their enemy was about to be killed by this poisonous snake.  But suddenly, without any reason, the snake closed its mouth, sunk back to the ground, and slithered off!

The Indians were astonished!  What could have protected this man from the bite of a deadly rattlesnake other than the God that he was praying to!
The Indians not only introduced themselves to David, but welcomed them into their village as well!  God had used that snake to make a way for David to become a part of the Indian village.  It wasn’t long before David had been given an opportunity to share about the God that protected him.
The weeks and months that followed were filled with difficulty, hunger, sickness, but most of all – joy.  Even though it was a very challenging way to live – all the way out in the wilderness without a dry home or good food – the Lord used David in wonderful and mighty ways.
The very first Indian who gave His life to Jesus was 100 years old, with hair as white as snow.  What a day that must have been for David!  And there were many others who followed the old man.
For 4 years David served, loved, and lived with the Indians.  He moved around several times to different villages, all of them eventually accepting and befriending him.  He started schools and shared about the love of Jesus.  So many Indians came to know Jesus through the work and obedience of David!

And throughout his adventures with the Indians, David prayed.  He prayed and he prayed and he prayed.  He never tired of it or forgot the importance of it.  Talking to his King was his lifeline…it was more important to him than eating, breathing, or even living.  He knew that nothing would be accomplished without spending precious time in prayer.
And so, after 4 fruitful and busy years, God called David home.  He allowed David to get sick and die in a dear friend’s bed.
Now David is in Heaven with all of the Indian brothers and sisters that he led to Jesus hundreds of years ago.
David’s life wasn’t long, and it wasn’t easy or perfect, but it was precious to the Lord.  David was so faithful in prayer and in sharing the truth…what glory he brought to God!  And now he is enjoying his eternal reward at home with his Heavenly Father.
You may not be old enough to travel across the world or go live in the wilderness, but you can pray.  Praying is often what someone does first before something big and marvelous happens.  You are never too young to pray!  And your prayers are never too big or too adventurous!

Prayer:  Loving Heavenly Father, You delight in the prayers of your people.  I ask that I would be a person who sees prayer as more important that eating or even breathing.  Remind me everyday to come to you in prayer, for the big and the little things!  Show me how to pray for things that I think are impossible, and remind me to pray for the things that I think are small enough for me to handle.  You are in control of them all, Father.  Thank you for being a King who loves His people and cares for them.  You have given me so much, Lord.  I love You forever!  Amen.

This Week intoducing Jolly Phonics to Caleb

So some dear friends introduced me to Jolly Phonics.
http://jollylearning.co.uk/british-english-group-1/
They have a free app for phones available (could be only for a certain period) so I've downloaded it.
I was showing it to my 8 year old baby and she comes up with this idea of why dont we make a bible song for each letter in place of their song.
So here's our attempt with the songs.... :)

Also we'll try a verse, a name and a Story to match with the letter.
Lets see where this adventure takes us.
